CONCRETE NOUNS AND ABSTRACT NOUNS

Nouns can be people, places, things and ideas.

But, thay can be of two different types: Concrete and abstract.

The most important thing about a concrete noun is that it has a "physical" manifestation: this means you can touch, taste or smell them.

For example:

  • Food, that you can taste, like a donut: 🍩.
  • Animals, that you can touch, like a monkey: 🐒.
  • Plants or flowers, that you can smell, like a palm tree or a sunflower:🌴🌻.
The abstract nouns are the opposite of the concrete nouns, because you can't "see" or "touch" them, but they definitely exist.

For example:
  • Emotions, like sadness: 😭.
  • Ideas, like world peace: ☮.
  • Feelings, like love:💘.

I found this video and I think it is super helpful: If you don't know whether a noun is concrete or abstract, you can ask yourself: Can I smell, touch or see it?

  •  If the answer is no, it is an abstract noun!
  •  If the answer is yes, it is a concrete noun!
